Brainstem Auditory Evoked Responses in Schizophrenics

Abstract
Brainstem auditory evoked responses were studied to investigate their relationship with schizop:zrenic disorders. The subjects were consisted of 20 schizophrenics who were admitted to the Department of Neuropsychiatry, Kang Nam St. Mary¢¥s Hospital, Catholic Medical College from September 1, 186 to November 30, 1986 and 26 normal controls.
The results were as follows:
1. There were significant differences in mean amplitude of wave I and wave V of BAER components between schizophrenics and normal controls.
2. On the contrary no significant differences in mean interwave latency and total amplitude of AER components between chronic schizophrenics and subchronic schizophrenics were noted.
3. And also, no significant differences in mean interwave latency of BAER components between positive schizophrenics and negative schizophrenics were noted, although negative schizophrenics exhibited a significantly lower total amplitude of BAER components when compared to positive schizophr nics.
